Hot Lemon, Ginger and Anger/

I'm sick. I have a fever. And a cough. I'm not even drinking coffee! I mean, I'm still at the coffee shop, but this time I'm drinking hot lemony gingery substances instead of coffee/crack. The fever part is kind of fun, I have to admit. I can say weird, inappropriate things (eg. 'parks are delicious' -- I just made that one up) and no one judges me, because it's "the fever talking". I can also talk in my sleep (as usual), stay away from the gym (same ol') and buy a cat stroller (?) and say that it's "the fever acting".

Anyway...let's talk about something else...like...uh...bunnies? Boats? OKAY FINE. I'LL TALK ABOUT THE CAT STROLLER. I bought one. Well, I didn't exactly buy one -- I made one. Is that worse or better? Possibly worse. I am now officially that lady. The lady who wheels around her angry-looking tiny puffy dog in a baby carriage on the streetcar; the lady who wears exclusively paisley, draws her eyebrows on with a magic marker and wears lipstick as blush; the lady who has a cat sweater, a cat calendar, a cat mug, a cat apron, cat salt and pepper shakers and ten cats. It doesn't matter what I do...if I'm pushing a homemade stroller with a cat in it, I'm that lady. I'll just have to accept it. (Unless that's the fever talking.) But man, the stroller is handy. No more taxis for Rufus and I.

It is winter now in Toronto. (Nice, smooth subject change there, Kate.) Over the weekend, it was 25 degrees Celsius (which is something else in Farenheit...let's say...um...235 degrees. Yaaaaa. Sorry -- it's the fever typing. And doing conversions.) Now, just four days later, it's 1 degree outside, there's something that looks an awful lot like snow falling outside and the wind is blowing so hard that an angry leaf almost took my eardrum out when I was standing on the street corner. Oh well. I'm not a big fan of winter, but I sort of prefer it to summer.

Hey! I have some big news:

I'm moving! Phark is no more. From now on, I'll be a member of the un-phark instead. (That doesn't make any sense.) I'll have to come up with a new name for the blog, too. Or maybe I'll just spend a few days coming up with a really good way to justify keeping it the same...

Hope everyone's well and happy!

Feverishly,

K.
(p.s. dso17, I have absolutely no idea about plays from the 50s, but I'm looking into it!)

Wow it'is already snowing in Toronto?
I prefer summer, because I don't like the temperatures in winter...

So sorry you're sick! I hope the lemony-gingery helps.

Does Rufus like his cat stroller?

I don't envy your weather...we just got a "huge Canadian arctic front" that brought our daily high temp down to...65 F (18 C). Big scary cold, huh?

Hope you feel better!

Many wishes for feeling better soon Kate! Wish I could wave a wand and cure you, but I foolishly left that magic wand of mine somewhere in my storage unit and can't find it now. The weather here is getting colder all the time (which I hate) but so far no snow.

And all of us are 'that lady' to some degree. Most just don't admit it! Keep warm, and we'll all send get well vibes your way.

I've had a horrid bug recently too.

Strangely, it's still reasonably warm and dry here...normally at this time of year we're wading through the streets because of the rainfall!

...okay...that was a slight exaggeration...though my train was delayed by flooding a few days ago.

Merci beaucoup !

A bientôt !

PS: J'espère que ton niveau de français à progresser maintenant avec mes modestes messages lol ! En tout cas moi j'apprend des tonnes de vocabulaire grâce à ton blog ! J'épate mon prof de droit anglais, lol!

Yes, do feel better soon. As for Rufus and his cat stroller-wow! If I tried that with my dad's cat, I'd either be picking him off the moon or getting arrested for him screaming (the cat) so much!

Oh and good luck on moving.

And for the weather-sad but I wouldn't might it if I was up there.

I'm sick also...I am miserable along with you sister! Ok, about the cat stuff, don't feel bad. I have the cat stuff also, however, not the stroller. My cat Tybalt would freak out and never come near that thing! My ferrets on the other hand would relish the idea of playing in it! I have cat thing-a-bobs all over, my mother doesn't help when she buys me xmas socks with kitties and cats...ah well, its cute, I admit that.

We got some "canadian" front waaaaay down here in Texas, so not instead of a warm 90 its a cool 74 degrees. Winter doesn't really exist in San Antonio.

Writing with a fever is painful...trying doing anthropological research while fevering! That is rough. I once had to observe primates with a fever, they just kept grooming me while I was sitting there sweating and scribbling notes! haha

I hope you're feeling better. You didn't by any chance visit your brother lately, did you?

I'm planning on being "that lady" when I grow up. Or maybe now. "That lady" wears hot pink pantsuits, gaudy jewelry and carries a cool cane. And has lots of cats. I think my sister is going to live me and be weird, too, when we're older, so you can come and visit with your cat stroller if you like. I'm already collecting the jewelry. It's as good a way as any to explain why I have a whole box of brooches and earrings that are way too gaudy to wear in public. I can't seem to help myself, I just keep buying them...

It's winter already, eh?

Well, it's meant to be spring in Sydney but it was 37 degrees celsius today and 33 yesterday... and we normally don't get those kinds of temps till Feb.

Congrats on the move!

Uh, cat stroller? I thought you wanted Rufus to do more exercise? :snicker: pampered little fella?

I had no idea what you were talking about in your last post - I kept wondering why you'd discuss Feb when it was so far away - until someone else mentioned to me that there was a con!

Funny thing is, I'm actually going to that con. Well, I'm going to see my sister in London and we'll spend some time in Europe but I thought I'd swing in a con attendance while in the country. It's mostly to meet other fans/friends whom I know and like. On yeah, and there some guy called Hewlett who is attending...! :D

Do take care of yourself and get lots of rest.

When I lived in NC, USA I was walking down the street where I lived and heard some children say "there goes the weird lady." They didn't say it in a mean way. it was just descriptive, like "there goes the tall man."

Another time the apartment manager looked at me funny but that was probably because I was wheeling an empty shopping cart up the street (to return it to the grocery store) while wearing my green velour cape!

I hope you'll have a smooth move and no much frustration waiting for you.

Now to that cat business: yeah, post a picture! I duno what my cats would say to a stroller but I guess we couldn't get all four of them into there anyway...and that weird lady. yup, I plan on becoming one, too! A friend of my sis already painted a real acryl-on-canvas-picture of my fave cat...and that will stay on my wall for eternity (or until it just falls down...)
I hope Rufus takes good care of you while you're being sick and brings all the little things to your bed that you need. He could have a little sled for that like a Huskie : )

A big get well soon to K and all the other Blogger regulars out there who are feeling less than peachy. So far I have managed to avoid the dreaded lurgy which is associated with the late nights and benders at the start of the semester....though this is more luck than judgement I fear.

It's a comfortable 18 degrees C over here at the mo, although I am in negotiations with Noah in the event another ex-hurricane heads our way, and I'm not looking forward to the winter...I'm a total summer person and would prefer to hibernate from October to April if at all possible.

Oh and K you cannot dangle the carrot of a cat stroller without posting a pic...it's just not cricket.

Hey Kate,

Gosh, sorry to hear you are so sick. My boys were sick last week but so far I am in the clear...keep my fingers crossed!! I tell you, when I was a preschool teacher I got sick about 20+ times a year...so hopefully my body is pretty immune, I just hate being sick!!!

Wow, snow already huh?? I am not a winter person at all!!!! I just love all the warm (sometimes hot) weather and spring and summer are my favorite times of the year. It's still nice here in Sacramento but my husband and I are heading off to Hawaii next week for 5 day vacation...without the kids!!!!! I am sure I am REALLY going to miss them but I can't wait to lay on the beach and relax and not have to take care of anyone except myself for a few days :)

Anyways, hope you do get better. Just take it easy, relax and try to sleep it off as much as you can!! Also, post a pic of the cat stroller, I am so curious what the crazy thing looks like :)

You made a cat stroller? *blinks* You know Petsmart has them too, right? Well, okay, fine it's for froufrou dogs, but still. What does it look like?

Ah, also...you know what, I'm over winter and it's officially just now Fall down here. Don't want it. I say we skip right to Spring. Wait, I take that back, since that meas it's Yellow Season (aka pollen) around here. Let's go back to summerish, say around Mid-May. Not too hot or cold. Just right. This 60sF in the day and 40sF in the night is for the birds. Too cold for this chick's blood.

Oh! Wait, if you're moving, where will you live...er, no specific I mean. You just have the most interesting roommates. Not including Rufus who is his own buddle of personality.

But just... how do you get a cat IN the stroller? (and keep him there?)
I've seen these contraptions in the petstores, and I can only use how various cats haven't liked the carrier as a reference.
Perhaps Rufus is one of those 'whatev!' cats that seem not to care (I do actually have one of those type felines, his name is Juneau and sometimes he goes for walks on a leash) but then others I've known have been quite adamant in their dislike for confined spaces, esp those with doors that zip/shut.

Get well soon!

I'm sorry that you're sick, and I hope you get well soon! It seems it's in your family, David wrote about one week ago that he has the flu, again. Ginger and lemons are a quite good cure for those weather conditions! Its the same crap here in Austria - we have about 5 degree celsius at morning, and when I'm out of office at 5 p.m., temperature is around 19 degrees. This drives me crazy because you never wear the right clothes!
I hope Rufus likes his stroller, please post a picture soon! I have to stuff my cat next week into his transport box, because of his annual vaccination - thankfully the little furball is very handy!

Try sucking on zinc tablets! My mom got me some the last time I was sick (she's a nurse and while we're not allowed to go to the hospital unless the broken bone can't be fixed at home [No, I'm serious.] she does keep us in flat gingerale and zinc tablets and arrow-root cookies) and they worked really well. Hello Kate,

I hope you are well again!!! To walk around with fever isn't very funny. I hope your friends put you back in bed for some days.

Though the weather is quite crazy around here in Magdeburg also (three days with 3 °C, now 20 °C) I fortunately didn't catch a cold. I wonder why ... A friend of mine gave me a recipe for such occasions: Fill three quarters of a cup with rum, add some sugar and lemon, and fill up with water. Put the cup into the microwave and heat it. Then Cheers. The best advice of the "friend" was: If you drink a second cup you should be already sitting in your bed.
I never tried this. I have no microwave. ;-)
No, seriously, I think there are better ways to get better when you have a cold.

Hey Kate,

Normally I can't stand blogs, but yours is probably amongst the best I've read (well, nobody beats Matt Stover...)

I must say, lemony-gingery stuff is probably good for colds, but I find the best way to keep one off is rooibos tea. Its very high in anti-oxidents (not as high as white tea, though) and has a very pleasant, unique fruity taste to it. I get mine in Waterdown (I'm from Stoney Creek...and I have to disagree-Hamilton is a horrible place to be! ;) St Kitts is nice though, if you're not driving [the roads system there made a textbook for what not to do in urban planning]. I went to Brock. If you go back, there's a great restaurant on St Paul Street (right side, going with traffic) called the Green Bean which serves healthy food, and unroasted coffee which is appearantly healthier. Oh, and they have an oxygen machine. The owners are kung fu students, so they're all into the healthy stuff. Now where was I...?) at "Tea at the White House" http://bestteashop.com/ My personal favourites are Rooibos Provence and Rooibos Lemon Sunshine. The lemony one is good for when you have a cold (presuming you're not allergic to lemons like your brother) and the other one is good for...well, any time. Provence also has lavendar in it, so it'll help you sleep. And, no, I don't own shares in the place...*walks away discretely*
;)

Salut !
