Hot Lemon, Ginger and Anger/
I'm sick. I have a fever. And a cough. I'm not even drinking coffee! I mean, I'm still at the coffee shop, but this time I'm drinking hot lemony gingery substances instead of coffee/crack. The fever part is kind of fun, I have to admit. I can say weird, inappropriate things (eg. 'parks are delicious' -- I just made that one up) and no one judges me, because it's "the fever talking". I can also talk in my sleep (as usual), stay away from the gym (same ol') and buy a cat stroller (?) and say that it's "the fever acting".
Anyway...let's talk about something else...like...uh...bunnies? Boats? OKAY FINE. I'LL TALK ABOUT THE CAT STROLLER. I bought one. Well, I didn't exactly buy one -- I made one. Is that worse or better? Possibly worse. I am now officially that lady. The lady who wheels around her angry-looking tiny puffy dog in a baby carriage on the streetcar; the lady who wears exclusively paisley, draws her eyebrows on with a magic marker and wears lipstick as blush; the lady who has a cat sweater, a cat calendar, a cat mug, a cat apron, cat salt and pepper shakers and ten cats. It doesn't matter what I do...if I'm pushing a homemade stroller with a cat in it, I'm that lady. I'll just have to accept it. (Unless that's the fever talking.) But man, the stroller is handy. No more taxis for Rufus and I.
It is winter now in Toronto. (Nice, smooth subject change there, Kate.) Over the weekend, it was 25 degrees Celsius (which is something else in Farenheit...let's say...um...235 degrees. Yaaaaa. Sorry -- it's the fever typing. And doing conversions.) Now, just four days later, it's 1 degree outside, there's something that looks an awful lot like snow falling outside and the wind is blowing so hard that an angry leaf almost took my eardrum out when I was standing on the street corner. Oh well. I'm not a big fan of winter, but I sort of prefer it to summer.
Hey! I have some big news:
I'm moving! Phark is no more. From now on, I'll be a member of the un-phark instead. (That doesn't make any sense.) I'll have to come up with a new name for the blog, too. Or maybe I'll just spend a few days coming up with a really good way to justify keeping it the same...
Hope everyone's well and happy!
Feverishly,
K.

Hope you feel better!!!!! :)
Uhh get well soon! With fever you should be in bed, you know? ;)
Wow it'is already snowing in Toronto?
I prefer summer, because I don't like the temperatures in winter...
Gute Besserung! I hope you feel better soon.
Have a nice weekend!
So sorry you're sick! I hope the lemony-gingery helps.
Does Rufus like his cat stroller?
I don't envy your weather...we just got a "huge Canadian arctic front" that brought our daily high temp down to...65 F (18 C). Big scary cold, huh?
Hope you feel better!
Many wishes for feeling better soon Kate! Wish I could wave a wand and cure you, but I foolishly left that magic wand of mine somewhere in my storage unit and can't find it now. The weather here is getting colder all the time (which I hate) but so far no snow.
And all of us are 'that lady' to some degree. Most just don't admit it! Keep warm, and we'll all send get well vibes your way.
*hugs*
get better soon!
I've had a horrid bug recently too.
Strangely, it's still reasonably warm and dry here...normally at this time of year we're wading through the streets because of the rainfall!
...okay...that was a slight exaggeration...though my train was delayed by flooding a few days ago.
Hope you feel better soon. Fever delirium is always fun, though a cat stroller? I think that's going above and beyond.
Good luck on your move!
Hope you feel better soon and that the move goes well.
The stroller sounds kinda cool though and I love the sound of your weather (I'm a autumn/winter girl).
Kikou !!!
Merci beaucoup !
A bientôt !
PS: J'espère que ton niveau de français à progresser maintenant avec mes modestes messages lol ! En tout cas moi j'apprend des tonnes de vocabulaire grâce à ton blog ! J'épate mon prof de droit anglais, lol!
Yes, do feel better soon. As for Rufus and his cat stroller-wow! If I tried that with my dad's cat, I'd either be picking him off the moon or getting arrested for him screaming (the cat) so much!
Oh and good luck on moving.
And for the weather-sad but I wouldn't might it if I was up there.
I'm sick also...I am miserable along with you sister! Ok, about the cat stuff, don't feel bad. I have the cat stuff also, however, not the stroller. My cat Tybalt would freak out and never come near that thing! My ferrets on the other hand would relish the idea of playing in it! I have cat thing-a-bobs all over, my mother doesn't help when she buys me xmas socks with kitties and cats...ah well, its cute, I admit that.
We got some "canadian" front waaaaay down here in Texas, so not instead of a warm 90 its a cool 74 degrees. Winter doesn't really exist in San Antonio.
Writing with a fever is painful...trying doing anthropological research while fevering! That is rough. I once had to observe primates with a fever, they just kept grooming me while I was sitting there sweating and scribbling notes! haha
I hope you feel better soon (or, as I might say in Hebrew, I wish you a refu'ah shleimah)!
Good luck with your move!
Fall has come to the Boston, MA, area, but no snow yet (thank goodness). It'll come soon enough, I know. I hope you're hunkering down and staying warm.
Hope you feel better.
Oh, oh my. I'm half way sorry you've turned into one of the Those Ladies and yet half way incredibly amused. A cat stroller? I guess on a Toronto streetcar, it's practical.
And bah humbug on snow. I'm moving to Vancouver. Rain is easier to deal with.
I hope you get better soon.
As for the fever talking, either you're always with fever or it didn't show up in your post. Only the usual Kate. :p
And post a picture of your homemade cat stroller. we all want to see your cat strollering skills.
It's all David's fault that you're sick you know, so you can blame everything on him :) I hope that you feel better soon!
Ah yes our temps dropped here in Oklahoma, US too. From a high of 80F to a high of 45F uhh... 27C to 7C, but we're supposed to warm back up to 80 (27) again by saturday.
Good luck fighting off all those vicious attacking leaves.
Oh, dear! You got the creeping crud, too!
Although, the loopy feeling from the cold medicine can be fun...especially at very important, really big meetings with upper management. Trust me on this one. I got to experience it first ahnd this week with my fever and cold medicine combination. It certainly made those boring meetings a lot more interesting.
Feel better!
poor you. Hope someone is there to drap a cool towel over your forhead and serve you endless supply of chicken soup. Get well soon kate.
As ofr degrees, totally know what you're talking about.. Fareinheit.. pfft... buggered if I know what the ocnversion is.
Good luck finding a new place.. We'll deifnately miss the loft. It had such a nice ring to it
I'm sorry, but you cannot post a comment about a cat stroller without showing a picture of it.
You just...can't.
(BTW, I made a cat car seat sort of thing for my boys so I think that officially makes me the crazy cat lady of my block).
This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
Feel better! The lemony-ginger drink helps. Any combination of lemon, honey, and lavender is also good.
Eek. Winter. Not too excited about that season. Buffalo, NY got 2 feet of snow yesterday. Blech. No thanks.
I hope you're feeling better. You didn't by any chance visit your brother lately, did you?
I'm planning on being "that lady" when I grow up. Or maybe now. "That lady" wears hot pink pantsuits, gaudy jewelry and carries a cool cane. And has lots of cats. I think my sister is going to live me and be weird, too, when we're older, so you can come and visit with your cat stroller if you like. I'm already collecting the jewelry. It's as good a way as any to explain why I have a whole box of brooches and earrings that are way too gaudy to wear in public. I can't seem to help myself, I just keep buying them...
Get well soon, and remember:
"You can keep a dog; but it is the cat who keeps people, because cats find humans useful domestic animals."- George Mikes
I hope you'll get better soon ! Take care of you, and tell your brother to cuddle you, he can't have more important things to do.
*hugs* I hope you feel better soon chica! Being sick sucks, but at least you have an excuse to stay in bed/at home all day :)
Get better soon Kate!
It's winter already, eh?
Well, it's meant to be spring in Sydney but it was 37 degrees celsius today and 33 yesterday... and we normally don't get those kinds of temps till Feb.
Congrats on the move!
Uh, cat stroller? I thought you wanted Rufus to do more exercise? :snicker: pampered little fella?
I had no idea what you were talking about in your last post - I kept wondering why you'd discuss Feb when it was so far away - until someone else mentioned to me that there was a con!
Funny thing is, I'm actually going to that con. Well, I'm going to see my sister in London and we'll spend some time in Europe but I thought I'd swing in a con attendance while in the country. It's mostly to meet other fans/friends whom I know and like. On yeah, and there some guy called Hewlett who is attending...! :D
Do take care of yourself and get lots of rest.
(May)
When I lived in NC, USA I was walking down the street where I lived and heard some children say "there goes the weird lady." They didn't say it in a mean way. it was just descriptive, like "there goes the tall man."
Another time the apartment manager looked at me funny but that was probably because I was wheeling an empty shopping cart up the street (to return it to the grocery store) while wearing my green velour cape!
:-)
Hi Katie baby!
*gives you much "medi'kate'd" chocolate ;)* (sorry bad pun)
I hope you get better soon and if you need help with any thing, anything at all, pounce me K?
get me at
leopards _ bane at yahoo dot com
minus the spaces of course lol
i have only one question: do you write when you're sick? because, i'm sure you'd do some very funny plays under the fever spell...
you're hilarious as usual... hope you'll get better...
Hey Kate!
Yeah get well soon, darling. You know we need you and your blog to cheer us up when we are sick ; )
It's sad to hear PHARK doesn't exist anymore but I'm sure you can go well enough as KARUF (as kittenz2006 already said)
I hope you'll have a smooth move and no much frustration waiting for you.
Now to that cat business: yeah, post a picture! I duno what my cats would say to a stroller but I guess we couldn't get all four of them into there anyway...and that weird lady. yup, I plan on becoming one, too! A friend of my sis already painted a real acryl-on-canvas-picture of my fave cat...and that will stay on my wall for eternity (or until it just falls down...)
I hope Rufus takes good care of you while you're being sick and brings all the little things to your bed that you need. He could have a little sled for that like a Huskie : )
A big get well soon to K and all the other Blogger regulars out there who are feeling less than peachy. So far I have managed to avoid the dreaded lurgy which is associated with the late nights and benders at the start of the semester....though this is more luck than judgement I fear.
It's a comfortable 18 degrees C over here at the mo, although I am in negotiations with Noah in the event another ex-hurricane heads our way, and I'm not looking forward to the winter...I'm a total summer person and would prefer to hibernate from October to April if at all possible.
Oh and K you cannot dangle the carrot of a cat stroller without posting a pic...it's just not cricket.
Oh dear, being sick is not fun! Did you catch that cold from your brother somehow? He wrote on his website that he was sick, too.
Anyway, I really hope you feel better soon! Get lots of rest. And no, sitting in the coffee shop is not resting. ;)
You're moving? To your own apartment? Do you stay in Toronto? All the best for the move. I hope you and Rufus get used to your new home quickly.
But I love your blog name, I hope your fever-ridden brain can come up with an idea to keep the name somehow. :)
A cat stroller. Hmmm. Hmmmmm. Don't know what to think about that. Any pics? *g*
Ah, keep the name of the blog! I love it! Sorry to hear you're under the weather (which, judging from the snow you guys got, well, you'll definitely getting a double-whammy).
Hey Kate,
Gosh, sorry to hear you are so sick. My boys were sick last week but so far I am in the clear...keep my fingers crossed!! I tell you, when I was a preschool teacher I got sick about 20+ times a year...so hopefully my body is pretty immune, I just hate being sick!!!
Wow, snow already huh?? I am not a winter person at all!!!! I just love all the warm (sometimes hot) weather and spring and summer are my favorite times of the year. It's still nice here in Sacramento but my husband and I are heading off to Hawaii next week for 5 day vacation...without the kids!!!!! I am sure I am REALLY going to miss them but I can't wait to lay on the beach and relax and not have to take care of anyone except myself for a few days :)
Anyways, hope you do get better. Just take it easy, relax and try to sleep it off as much as you can!! Also, post a pic of the cat stroller, I am so curious what the crazy thing looks like :)
Take Care, Angela Langford
The stroller sounds cute! It can be a swanky stroller, not just the crazy cat lady stroller.
Fevers make the world a bit more interesting...and is like legal crack that the brain does on its very own! :D Maybe you'll get some awesome writing out of this?
Awww! I'm sorry to hear about PHARK. Good luck with the move! Loft in Translation is a cool play on words...and maybe that makes it a worthy reason to keep? But then the name wouldn't pertain to what is. :(
a cat stroller? made by you?? it must be funny... do you have some photos of this???
I hope you're better now.....
L
We had a major temperature difference down here also....But no snow. Not fair. I want snow.
Cat lady. You're the cat lady now. Don't worry I am too!
Go get Thermacare flu stuff. It worked for me last winter. Don't know if you can get it in Canada though.
First things first, lots of hugs, smooches and hot lemony drink things for you. Hope you start to feel better soon and hope that Rufus is taking care of you!
Also big hugs and smooches to Tria and the rest of you that are suffering. Look on the bright side... you get to stay in bed all day! Sorry, it's the procrastination queen in me talking.
Well, I think that Loft in Translation is still really cool, and when people ask why it's called that, you can say, "Well, back in the days...". I really love the title. *shrug*
Good luck with the move and you'll have to tell us all about it!
Take Care
Tracy xx
I love never getting sick :P
get better soon. lots of hot lemons. I love winter. wish we got more snow here :(
Aw, honeycakes, feel better soon! And don't go out into the snow with a fever, silly girl! That'll just make you sicker.
You made a cat stroller? *blinks* You know Petsmart has them too, right? Well, okay, fine it's for froufrou dogs, but still. What does it look like?
Ah, also...you know what, I'm over winter and it's officially just now Fall down here. Don't want it. I say we skip right to Spring. Wait, I take that back, since that meas it's Yellow Season (aka pollen) around here. Let's go back to summerish, say around Mid-May. Not too hot or cold. Just right. This 60sF in the day and 40sF in the night is for the birds. Too cold for this chick's blood.
Oh! Wait, if you're moving, where will you live...er, no specific I mean. You just have the most interesting roommates. Not including Rufus who is his own buddle of personality.
Hope you feel better Kate!
Mmm.. makes me crave hot tea w/lemon now.
But just... how do you get a cat IN the stroller? (and keep him there?)
I've seen these contraptions in the petstores, and I can only use how various cats haven't liked the carrier as a reference.
Perhaps Rufus is one of those 'whatev!' cats that seem not to care (I do actually have one of those type felines, his name is Juneau and sometimes he goes for walks on a leash) but then others I've known have been quite adamant in their dislike for confined spaces, esp those with doors that zip/shut.
Get well soon!
I'm sorry that you're sick, and I hope you get well soon! It seems it's in your family, David wrote about one week ago that he has the flu, again. Ginger and lemons are a quite good cure for those weather conditions! Its the same crap here in Austria - we have about 5 degree celsius at morning, and when I'm out of office at 5 p.m., temperature is around 19 degrees. This drives me crazy because you never wear the right clothes!
I hope Rufus likes his stroller, please post a picture soon! I have to stuff my cat next week into his transport box, because of his annual vaccination - thankfully the little furball is very handy!
Soooooo, there's this interview with your brother that was just posted at http://www.sg1archive.com/transcripts/DH1006a.shtml.
It says that Chris Judge was hitting on you during the filming of A Dog's Breakfast. True? Inquiring minds want to know!
ps. Hope you feel better soon. The weather here is crap, isn't it. I got soaked from the rain today (Tuesday) on my way to work.
Apparently I forgot my password, so, HI, this is Auliya. *frickinfrackinpasswordforgetfullness*
Just saying a 'hello' to you with a
'good luck' on the move and 'WTF?' on the cat stroller...LOL!
Is it bad that my new job is keeping me from writting my book? To bad I can't chuck the new job, definetly don't want to stop the book writting. Anyway, hope all turns out well for you, but I have to say your crazy for moving in the winter! *concern*
Try sucking on zinc tablets! My mom got me some the last time I was sick (she's a nurse and while we're not allowed to go to the hospital unless the broken bone can't be fixed at home [No, I'm serious.] she does keep us in flat gingerale and zinc tablets and arrow-root cookies) and they worked really well. Everything kind of clears up and I found the sick-time was cut down significantly.
Okay, there was a huge run-on at the start of this. -_-; Please ignore that.
Hey Kate,
I think this cold is spread through the Internet, since so many people I know have it! I fought the cold and the cold won.
Relax--you will never be That Lady. No matter how many cat thingys you have. Rufus is probably overjoyed.
Good luck with the move, and I hope all goes well with your next play!
Dear Kate
Hi! It's Heather (the Scripty from ADB) in Vancouver, just popping my head in to say that I hope you feel better by the time you read this. The kids and I recently saw your Atlantis episode, and now my son yells "Hey, it's Kate!" every time your Scotiabank commercial airs.
Take care, stay warm,
~Heather C
Hope you feel better soon. Is it an omen that you feel ill and blogged on Friday the 13th?!
I just came across your blog and am truly enjoying it.
Sorry to hear that you've been sick. It's been going around work here in Kansas City and I am just now better after over a week....unforunately I went from eating crackers and water to eating EVERYTHING while taking prednisone. So that means aerobics class is beckoning....I may resist the urge.
Stay warm up there!
O Kate, Kate, Wherefore art thou Kate?
I hope that you are not still feeling ill.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you in your next post.
Please give us a shout and let us know you are feeling better, that is IF you are feeling better. :)
Great interview on Gateworld, by the way!!
Gods, i can't believe you dont have any visits from latin-america, well i jus figured i'd say hi, feel better, thought this comment is a week and a few days after you posted, but anyway Greetings from Venezuela
PS: i smuggled Mckay and Mrs Miller from the web, nice job we want more Jeannie! XD
Welcome to Cult Sci-Fi fame Kate, I hope you enjoy the ride.
Sorry to hear that Ontario is getting our weather this year. The Maritimes are still unseasonably warm. *grin*
Good luck with "The Move".
Ciao from Moncton, NB
Hello Kate,
I hope you are well again!!! To walk around with fever isn't very funny. I hope your friends put you back in bed for some days.
Though the weather is quite crazy around here in Magdeburg also (three days with 3 °C, now 20 °C) I fortunately didn't catch a cold. I wonder why ... A friend of mine gave me a recipe for such occasions: Fill three quarters of a cup with rum, add some sugar and lemon, and fill up with water. Put the cup into the microwave and heat it. Then Cheers. The best advice of the "friend" was: If you drink a second cup you should be already sitting in your bed.
I never tried this. I have no microwave. ;-)
No, seriously, I think there are better ways to get better when you have a cold.
By the way, is Rufus still happy with the cat stroller?
cat stroller...o_O interesting...
hope you fever goes away soon. I wish there was snow here in Vancouver...
Hi Kate,
Just dropping by to tell you I loved the GateWorld interview. It's lovely to get these little 'behind the scenes' peeks, with such a personal touch. Plus there were a couple of things to start crossing my fingers for, like a possible revisit of your character to (in? at? *is confused*) SGA and you contemplating the possibility of appearing at the Pegasus 2 con in London. So maybe, maybe!!
Hey Kate,
Normally I can't stand blogs, but yours is probably amongst the best I've read (well, nobody beats Matt Stover...)
I must say, lemony-gingery stuff is probably good for colds, but I find the best way to keep one off is rooibos tea. Its very high in anti-oxidents (not as high as white tea, though) and has a very pleasant, unique fruity taste to it. I get mine in Waterdown (I'm from Stoney Creek...and I have to disagree-Hamilton is a horrible place to be! ;) St Kitts is nice though, if you're not driving [the roads system there made a textbook for what not to do in urban planning]. I went to Brock. If you go back, there's a great restaurant on St Paul Street (right side, going with traffic) called the Green Bean which serves healthy food, and unroasted coffee which is appearantly healthier. Oh, and they have an oxygen machine. The owners are kung fu students, so they're all into the healthy stuff. Now where was I...?) at "Tea at the White House" http://bestteashop.com/ My personal favourites are Rooibos Provence and Rooibos Lemon Sunshine. The lemony one is good for when you have a cold (presuming you're not allergic to lemons like your brother) and the other one is good for...well, any time. Provence also has lavendar in it, so it'll help you sleep. And, no, I don't own shares in the place...*walks away discretely*
;)
Feel better! I hope Rufus is doing his part by curling up at your side and keeping you warm.
Hi Kate *waves*
I also just read the interview and I liked it very much. You did a perfect job considering you were so nervous too! ; )
I very much hope Jean will come back to Atlantis one day even though I still haven't seen MaMM so far. But I'm dead sure it's going to blow me away!
And you made me even more anxious to see ADB...
Apart from that, I hope very much that you feel better already! Or at least that you'll beat your cold soon!
I'm listening to the gateworld interview now. It's really fantastic and lovely.
I just listened to the interview on GateWorld and it was really fun listening to it!
I would love to see you back in Atlantis!
I hope you have a nice time and you got well since that time!
Salut !
