Brevity is the Soul of Wit (a.k.a. I'm Going to be Late for Dinner if I Make this Post Too Long)/

It is 4:55pm and I am meeting my oldest and dearest friend (another M! Fancy that!) at 5:30pm for a girls' night/high school reunion type of thing. I still have to choose an outfit, change, make my face look human, buy booze (uh...not for me...it's for my friend...um...Klate Pewlett, who DOESN'T have an ulcer...) and get to Lakeshore Blvd.

So I am going to make this post quick and I am not going to ramble like I did in the first paragraph (and in the title, a little bit.) No! Paragraph Two Kate is concise. Concise concise concise. Yep yep yeppers. Paaaaaragraph Twooooo Kaaaaaate. Here goes: I hope that anyone reading this is having a wonderful day. I also hope that anyone NOT reading this is having a wonderful day -- I just left you out because you're not reading this, so you wouldn't know I was wishing you well and you'd--

Oh man, I'm being long-winded again.

Happy Friday, everyone! That's it. Thank you thank you thank you for all the comments and especially to Jen for the new subsite, which is incredibly flattering and wholly undeserved! (It's pretty damn cool, though. And surreal!)

Also...I hope those of you in the U.S. enjoy McKay and Mrs. Miller tonight. And I hope those of you in Australia enjoy...um...knowing that you share something special with Russell Crowe. And those of you in England? Uh...I hope you enjoy the chocolate there. It tastes better. So does the milk. For those of you living in Germany, Italy, France, Japan, etc. etc....I hope you enjoy knowing I'm intensely jealous of you for living in Germany, Italy, France, Japan, etc. etc.

This isn't brief at all.

Hey, by the way, I saw "Titus" the movie last night and it was AMAZING. WOW. Inspiring. Not happy (unless you're a reeeeal sicko) but inspiring.

And now I'm officially late. Can I use blogoholism as an excuse?

Bye!

K.

blogoholism? yes...that's a proper excuse...one I use quite frequently!

Blogoholism is a perfectly good excuse! It's a common affliction for me.

The UK does have better chocolate. Yuck to Hersey's and Nestle.

I'm about nuts to see "McKay & Mrs. Miller" tonight....and several folks on the Sony boards have decided to get together and talk/watch it.

Enjoy your girl's night out!

Hi Kate,

How goes the writing? For the play, not the blogging (because that is going great and want you to keep up the good blogging work you do here)

I guess people envy what they don't have. You're jealous of of us living in Europe etc, and I would love to live in Canada. I've visited several times and I think its a great country and the people are nice too (at least everybody I've met there.)

Your subsite well deserved, since we all think you're great :)

Almost time for the M&MM episode.
I've got my bags of M&M's to eat during the episode.
We've also poked David on his blog to get you a copy of the episode so you don't have to wait untill 2017.

and as everybody allready mentioned, blogoholism is a legitimate excuse.

I hope you have a lot of fun on your girls night out.

some more Dutch:
Vanavond - tonight
vrijdag - friday
onverdiend - undeserved
verdiend - deserved
chocola - chocolate
kort - brief

Greetings,

Australians just get Russell Crowe? I think we've been jipped!

What about the delectable Hugh Jackman? He can sing, he can dance, he can shave with his claws (Wolverine, remember?)! And no Phone-Rage! What more could a girl ask for? *grins*

Oh and Cadbury's chocolate is the bees knees. *insert Homer drool here*

I love the fact that I live within an hour's drive of the Cadbury factory. *vbg*

Some of us outside the US will get to see the episode fairly soon and watch it whenever our TV networks decide to air it. I acquire mine through other means as many people do because I want to be able to keep up with my internet friends as they're watching the series. But I still buy them when they come out legally, too. :) When I have the money, anyway. Can't wait to see it-- if you're as good an actress as you are a blog-writer, it'll be fab!

Although... many people will now ask for a doctors note as so many people will try to get away with stuff by claiming blogoholism. Its raising many concerns. Id love to visit Australia's Great Barrier Reef, and Europe's old architecture. Castles!!! Canada's great because of the four seasons, but our bad winters arent fun. Although, I do love the snow.

I'd like to be among the first to say that McKay and Mrs. Miller was by far one of the best episodes and most touching episodes of Stargate Atlantis I've seen in the three seasons thus far. You are an amazing actor, watching you and your brother was a real treat and I imagine I'm not the only fan to feel this way! I'm go glad you got the chance to do this, I loved it! Thank you again!

This has definitely been a highlight of the season :)

I'm going to be fangirly and use all caps and everything: I LOVE YOUR EPISODE. LOVE LOVE LOVITY LOVE. You were FANTASTIC! Seriously, you did something really subtle early on in the episode that was just awesome. I don't know if it was scripted or directed or what, but I'm going to give you the credit and say that your instincts about that scene were dead on. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't been able to see it yet, but wow. And you and David made me tear up, dammit!

Is it a Hewlett trait to have great chemistry with every actor you're paired with, in every scene? Really, first David, now you. It's kind of not fair. ;)

I also noticed something flash by in the credits: Brendan Gall was in this episode! How does he feel about Martin Gero (I'm assuming they're friends) using his name for a scientist who dies a horrible death after almost being drained of his life by a monstrous Wraith? :D

Again, congratulations!

Well, I hope English will do for a comment *g*. We just saw McKay and Mrs. Miller, and it was fantastic. It hit a little close to home for me, as I have an older brother that I never talk to (and yes, I cried a little and am calling him in the morning), so there's that. Very effective, and we need at least a bi-yearly Jeannie appearance; raised the hotness factor (which was already quite high), AND the McKay love (also high high). So yes. More Jeannie, please.

It also makes me want to check out more Canadian acting, because by God is our country full of talent, or what?

Great job on Atlantis, Kate! Loved the ep! I sure hope we get to see more of you on there some time. (I almost cried during your last scene...so moving.)

Titus is a pretty freaky movie. I bought it when I was going to a private Quaker school, just because it was on the approved list of R-rated movies we were allowed to have (the need for which was a very small part of the reason I transferred), because apparently it has educational value. But man, that scene with the branch-hands...yikes. Yep, very interesting, very strange film.

Kate, I only just got to see the SGA ep, but you were fabulous. It was great to see you and David together. I thought the tone was beautifully done, with the tensions between them, and the years of anger and resentment that they were both trying to deal with as they got to know one another again.

Actually, after I left home to join the Navy, there was a period of 17 years where I didn't see my brother, and really didn't hear from him either except through our parents. We were both on opposite sides of the globe. I was pretty shocked to find that he'd turned into a human being in the intervening years. You guys captured that kind of feeling very well.

And yeah, I still call my brother Jamie when everybody else on the planet calls him Jim. "Mer." Yeah. That so works.

Just watched "McKay and Mrs. Miller", and it was an okay episode. Sadly I feel that it had a very strong (funny) first half but a much less exciting second half.

The emotional stuff worked great, but putting it together with another "save the universe by the push of a button, again" lessened the impact in my eyes. I think it could have been even more interesting (and with more conflict) if the problems of the parallel universe weren't so conclusively confirmed (especially so heavy-handed as with the appearence of 'the traveller'), but maybe a theory held strongly by Mrs.Miller, creating conflict with the "the odds of it being populated are astronomical" POV of McKay. This would then become a battle of wills and prestige between the two siblings, of course ultimately leading to McKay realizing he doesn't always know best.

Sure, this removes the 'the grass isn't always greener'-aspect of the story, but I found that weak anyhow. Maybe the needed that just so that the rest of the cast would get some lines :-\

Anyhow, you did very good work in this ep (enough for me to find you here), so congrats on that.

Regards,
eloj.

(PS. You could probably double for Mary McCormack, or am I weird for making that association?)

It's been said a lot of times here already, but I have to say it too: M&MM is a fantastic episode!

I just watched it and when it ended I just sat there and couldn't do anything for a moment. The ep made me cry, made me laugh, made me feel all fuzzy inside, short, made me very, very happy! I wish it could have been much longer!
And you're insanely beautiful and talented! Loved seeing you and David as siblings in this episode. Your chemistry is amazing!

Hope your friend forgave you that you were late. :) Blogoholism is a good excuse, at least for the first two or three times. After that you might get sent to withdrawal treatment, so be careful. Better say you couldn't find your keys/the bus was late/the weather was bad/all your fav clothes were in the laundry/your mother called you/it's Friday and the pope is catholic and the annyoing dog of your annyoing neighbour tried to bite you while you were trying to find your keys to go to the launderette to wash some clothes to have at least something to wear while you were talking to your Mum on the phone and trying to convince her that pizza is great food for any child may it be 7 or 29 and that the rain that goes down outside surely isn't such a bad thing as the bus might be late then and you'd never catch it otherwise.

Ehhh...did I say that I envy you living in Canada?

Some people occasionally post Atlantis episodes that they download off of their TiVo's and then put them out there for others to see. Since it was broadcast on cable, I"m not sure of legality issues, but I still thought if you wanted to see how great you were sooner than 2017 you might want to give it a shot!

On another note. LOVED McKay and Mrs. Miller. You should be a regular or at least a reaccuring character on SGA. With fingerpaint.

I just wanted to say that McKay and Mrs. Miller is the best episode of this season, to date. The way you made Jean was great. I loved her interaction with everyone. The part about meeting Sheppard was very funny. Does David do that kind of stuff in real life?

Just saw McKay & Mrs. Miller. Wow, you were great in it! Now that it's aired, you'll have to tell us all about your time on set.

Martin (I think it was Martin) is so right about the "Hewlett-isms". I can see it in the way you move your hands, and in the way you hold yourself. And, "Sorry!". Sam is right. That was cute!

I have to admit, when we first learned about the possibility of you being on the show, I googled you. And saw that you worked with an actor by the name of Brendan Gall. Which was the name of a scientist in the first season of Atlantis. Now he's the actor who was cast as your husband. Can you tell us how that came about?

Again, great job! I hope they can write you in again on the show.

Good morning Kate.

I hope your dinner was every bit as fun as it sounded like it would be. Atlantis was so much fun to watch last night (I couldn't post then as I was on my way out the door to go to work as soon as the end credits started to roll) My boyfriend and I enjoyed every minute of it. Wonderful job! And did we make a mistake or did someone we saw in a picture you posted the other day also show up in the show?....

David was excellent as always. Seems they can always come up with some way to keep him 'busy' - shall we say.

AS for your blogoholism...I would suggest a blog for blogoholics but I think we're already there.

Have a fun weekend!

I just watched the episode of last night on Scifi. You are great in it. It was so much fun to watch you brother and you, together...
Have you a relationships like that in the real life? I guess not.
Anyway, for a comment about your post, you can be proud to live in Canada. I agree with you on the fact that it is different from France or Europe (I am from France, and I am living in Montreal!!) but I like this country. Life here is so different, on the good way! (Just the weather is worst!!!
Anyway, enjoy your weekend,

Hi Kate,

Saw the McKay and Mrs Miller ep yesterday.

I totally did not know what to expect (I resisted spoilers for this) and was very pleasantly surprised by how it all gelled together.

Your scenes with David were incredibly - a great blend of comedy and a touch of sentimentality (uh is that even a word)! I also like Jeanie's interactions wtih the other cast members.

Saw Titus a long while back - it was a very dark movie and some scenes made me gasp in surprised. But I loved it and I like Jonathan Rhys Myers. I like his versatility and the fact that he always picks different types of roles.

Ugh... I had a ten years high school reunion 4 years ago - didn't realise that time had past so much!

Have fun :)

More praise for M&MM. You and David had me misty eyed at the end. I'll admit, I was expecting more comedy, but this worked very well, too. I hope Jeannie visits the SG world frequently.

Kate! You have a blog! Where have I been to miss out on that...? Bad fangirl - bad! (Chastises self severely)

So now that I've already probably disturbed you, I'll go on to make it worse: McKay and Mrs. Miller has had me wildly excited for months now, and when I heard you were cast, I was literally jumping up and down for days. And then I watched Dark Water because you were in it - and very wonderful you were, too. :) And of course, now iTunes hasn't put M&MM up yet! Growl, grumble, grumble...

I love your blog... I couldn't stop laughing. And Rufus is really sweet. I'll definitely be coming back here to read of the marvellous exploits of PHARK.

Sorry if I sound a bit obsessive here... I tend to get carried away. ;) I'd go and bug your brother, too, but he doesn't allow anonymous comments (understandably), and I don't blog, because I never have anything to say. (Looks at long, long comment.) Ahem.

Oh, and as to my website - you don't want to got there. I just stuck it on for kicks. However, you will be in the banner as soon as I manage to make a new version.

Thanks for brightening my day, and take care. :)

Well, that was a Stargate episode as I love them best: warm and witty, emphasis on the characters, what moves them, their interaction (absolutely loved the click between Sam and Jeanie by the way!) My husband and I did a lot of laughing out loud and there was some blinking away of tears during the brother/sister moment at the end (only by me though...)

You and David made it so easy to empathize with Jeanie and Rodney, all the way.

I hope you enjoyed working on this as much as I enjoyed the result.

I have a sister too and normally she isn't very into scifi, but she really liked this episode because of the brother-sister relationship! I'm hoping for some future appearences of Jeannie :-)

Just saw you're talking about chocolate, I'm some kind of expert (not that I eat lots of it, but love it none the less)cause I'm from Switzerland. We just got the best chocolate in the world ;-), you just have to try Torino or Cailler!

Though Canada is not the worst place to live, I don't think one could ever call it exotic. And Damn those Brits and their chocolate, its how they maintained their empire for so long ( almost spelt their they're but caught myself) Anyways, since I can't comment on your acting abilities in M&MM(got to say it again) I will at least say that your blog is entertaining and distracting. It's quite sad that as a country, Australia gets paired with Russel Crowe and Mel Gibson. We have other nice things! We do! We have high rates of skin cancer and the most poisonous snakes and other dangerous and vicious things! We also have pretty beaches and nice people and funny accents! I also thought it was funny that when Russel Crowe was in the height of his fame Australia and New Zealand had fights over who could claim him - but now that he's gotten all stupid, well, we try to pawn him off to each other.

In other news, like everyone else, I loved the SGA episode! I accidentally kicked my cat due to laughing/flailing, and am sharing out the episode to my friends who a)haven't seen past season 1 due to Australia not airing it, and b)anyone who I can make watch it - because? WORTH IT.

Well, you were clearly ecstatic that it was Friday! That vast piece of particularly concise rambling was brilliantly executed at the swift rate of around ten thousand of words a minute, I imagine, as I estimate it only took you 1min30 to think it up, type it (30secs)and post it... 0.002sec... oh I realize I have forgotten to carry the...eh..

:Ahem:

now: 'share something special with Russell Crowe' :coughs: hope not.. Give me Hugh Jackman any day...

:reading other comments: My goodness, the Aussies are up in arms about this aren't they?! hehe. Russell Crowe really is a sore point! Oh Kate, what did you say?! LOL. As Lauren stated - yes, us Aussies have horrid snakes and spiders, skin cancer, funny accents (which no Hollywood actor will ever master), ridiculously hot weather, sun, sea, surf, vicious mosquitoes, corked hats and the most unflattering slang on earth... We try to keep that to ourselves but Croc dundee did some irrepairable damage... hmmm, hey Kate, why bother with Italian, French, German, Japanese...? Aussie slang's the one to learn! LOL.

as for blogohol...er blogoholisc... um...oh right - copy, paste...blogoholism, well I think I have something FAR worse... I think it's called Hewlett-sibling-blogoholism and I do fear it's contagious, virulent even.

Ok, now to M&MM. It was brilliant! You were terrific and I hope we get to see you on SGA again soon ;)

You must tell us all about it now!! There must be many stories we can tease David about... Go on - you know you want to...Was it rather like the McKay sibling banter? I know David did mention something along those lines and it's only fair that you get your own back.

Ok- not-so-subtle-hints-for-inside-info aside, it was great to see you both acting so similarly. (Is this the genius portrayal of the family: McKay, or the famous 'Hewlettisms' which I've read about...?) There was much character development in many of the leads which was very exciting. It really was a funny episode and was great to watch. :)

so thankyou, and have a...er- hope you had a nice weekend!!

Hello there! First time seeing this blog! I was just wondering about who was McKay's sister in Stargate Atlantis "McKay and Mrs. Miller" episode, did a little search, and found that you were actually brothers. Searched a little further and found this blog. Now I read all of this and I guess I'll just add it to my favorites, because I think you have a great sense of humor. I also loved the episode and I think it would be great to see you both on other episodes. To finish I have to say that you got yourself a fan from Portugal..Shouldn't be the first one since you had comments in Portuguese for other entries (didn't really see them, just your reference in another post), but they could be from Brazil or other country, so I might actually be your first fan in Portugal (at least the first that comments your blog). Great... And now I'm starting to think I probably have written a comment longer than the original post. Sorry for that. Keep up the good work. Parabéns (pelo episódio e pelo blog)! É melhor ficar por aqui, antes que faça um comentário com o dobro do tamanho do post original. Babel fish is your friend. If you wish to bother at all :p

I'm going to be the umptieth person (the 116th, it seems) to tell you how wonderful you were in "McKay and Mrs Miller". This is now my favorite SGA episode and I suspect it'll stay that way for a long time. Until you get to be in several other episodes, in fact :)

I've tremenously envoyed your interaction with your brother and like many others, couldn't help but wonder how much was acting and how much was just you two just being yourselves!
Anyway, it was fascinating to watch and it's obvious that talent for acting runs in at least two members of the Hewlett family.

You're building quite the fanbase and that's entirely deserved!
If you ever want to visit England, let's say at the begining of February 2007, with your brother... A lot of us would be chuffed *not so subtle hint*
