Loft in Transition?/

So...I moved. I am no longer a member of PHARK. PHARK has, in fact, dissolved and will soon transition into PAG instead. (Or GAP, I guess, but I hate their pants. Too big in the waist, too small in the hips.) I can't bear to change the name of the blog, because I'll never ever come up with something that clever again. Um...let's try..."No-Loft, Not Being Translated"? Nope. Lame. Uh..."Eternal Sunshine of the Loftless Mind"? Even lamer, because it sounds like I'm actually trying. "Paradise Loft"? Well that doesn't make a lick of sense. And what's worse, I just used the word "lick" in the 1950s old man way. Ohhhh dear. "The Bachelorette"? Nope, I'm not single. "My Apartment"? Catchy, Hewlett. Reeeeeal catchy.

See? It's useless. So I'm keeping the title "Loft in Translation", even if it means that I have to spy on P, A and the mysterious new G in order to justify my decision. So there.

And now, if I may...ladies and gentlemen (all two of you)...I present:

KRAM

It's the new PHARK, but with less space and more cats.

That's right. I adopted a second cat. Her name is Martha, and I could fit about seven cats her size into Rufus' generous belly (not that I've tried. That would be HORRIFYING.) She is fluffy and black-brown (like all my IKEA furniture) and very, very small. Rufus and Martha chase each other around the new apartment (all ten square feet of it) while Martha bares her claws and Rufus swings his stumps...and they sleep on my bed together at night. Neither one of them shows the slightest bit of interest in me. I'm just the one who opens the blinds for them so they can make that weird "want to eat pigeons" noise they love so much; the one who puts their food out when they knock breakables off high surfaces to let me know they're hungry; the one who discourages them from storing their toys in the litterbox. Yep, Crazycatladyland can get a little lonely. (Not really. That was just for dramatic effect.)

So that's my news!

Also...I think I'm going to go to Los Angeles for the Dog's Breakfast screening this month. Will I meet any of you there??

Until then, I'll be unpacking. And picking up tufts of fur...

K.

I don't blame you for keeping the name, Loft in Translation is a clever title. You can say you are keeping it out of nostalgia. I'm glad Rufus is getting along with his new sibling. Will they be sharing the cat stroller? You could build one that resembles the stroller people use for twins. Then you'd really look like a crazy cat lady. :)

I was going to post the first comment for the week, but I was too slow. Oh, well, at least I'm second.

Best wishes for your new apartment and a smooth settling in. In August I moved from the Midwest to New England and it was a lot of work!

I wish I could go to LA. But that's a 12 hour flight away, and a hell of a lot of money. I'll be there in spirit. You can meet my spirit, exciting. Have you seen the finished product yet? Or do you have to wait till you get to LA?

Another cat to join the family? YAY! I get to take my kitty with me when I move out of home :)

Did the move go well? Nice and smooth? Did ya discover you owned something you didn't know you had?

Hope you and Rufus and Martha are settling in nicely :)

Congratulations on getting all moved in! Good luck getting all your boxes unpacked :P I've lived in the same house for 7 years and I still have boxes of books. I just don't have enough bookselves.

Aww. :( Now I wish even more than ever that I could make it to the LA screening. Alas, it's just not possible at this time. 26 hours driving time is just too far. I'm really hoping for a screening somewhere in the midwest or south. I'd be willing to drive up to 12 hours one way to get there, but that's my upper limit.

(PAG sounds cool.. sonds like the old game POG that.. and I hate the Gaps pants as well)

Will we be seeing a picture of Martha?

As far as the screening is concerned, I can't, but if I lived in LA, I would DEFINITLY show up. As it is, I live in Texas and go to college. Hope everything goes well with it!!!

Pag????

Good to hear you'll feeling better and nice of you to get another cat - someone to play with Rufus, or maybe encourage him to run around.

I (sadly) will not attend the LA screening but then again, I uh live in Australia :D

But I know a couple of people are pretty excited about it so it should be great fun! :)

Hmmmmm....I wonder if I can persuade my lecturers that flying to L.A. to attend a screening is essential research for an upcoming essay. I could use my student loan...it's not like I need to eat every day of the week. ;-)

Wish I could go, but can't. Between work, a dr's appointment I have that morning (that I scheduled like 3 weeks ago) plus it's on the opposited side of the continent for me.

Ah well. Glad to hear the move went well. And I don't think you're an old man for saying 'lick'. We say that down here in the south all the time.

You should tell your crazy brother to send his flick down this way. (Nope, no hint at all, really!) Hee!

Good to hear the move went well! So glad it was you and not me. Jeez I hate moving. Having to deal with the fact that one owns so much, well, stuff! And having to pack it, and carry, and then unpack, and...

Also, did you know that KRAM is a very good swedish word? I'm sure you can find out what it means... :)

So very glad to hear your little family has expanded. Sounds like Martha is just what Rufus needed - a sister/playmate. Hope we get to see a photo soon.

Have a great time at the screening! I thought about going, looked into it, but decided I had better save the money at the moment. Dang. But best wishes for success. Have fun!

Ah, no more PHARK. That's okay, PAG is bound to give us (and you) endless fun and reasons to blog. By the way, we need more info on this new G.

I don't like Gap's pants either! I have the same problem you do. I gave up shopping there along time ago.

I love that you have a new kitten. Rufus has a playmate...you'll never get her back you know that right? I need another cat. I love the funny sounds they make. Or....just come to chat on David's site and you can meet some of our noisey cats!

I'm in the same boat as most of the folks that have already responded. No ADB screening for me this time around. I live in FL and tickets are waaaaay to expensive (I checked as soon as I saw the announcement!!).

Would you do the east coast and midwesterners a favor and get David to look at our half of the country? (Preferably a location in the south......Nashville would be centralized!)

Enjoy the screening and meeting anyone that gets to come. Give us all kinds of details! (And a picture of David, Jane, you, and Paul if he comes!)

Well I'm writing this at 3am in the morning so excuse my sensless babbling and most probably gramatic errors and spelling mistakes!

Congrats on the new family member... ALhtough I'm a dog person myself, never really one for cats, but definately keep the name, it's catchy and I can tell my freinds I keep tabs on this really witty blogger who named thier blog "loft-in-translation"...

Good luck with the LA scene, Having a really important exams half way across the hempishere/equator/world really doesn't bode well sorry, but hopefully if you guys screen in Australia, you've gotta come down!

I hope you don't mind meeting some of ur Australian Followers.

Hmm I have no idea what I'm writting anymore I really should get to sleep since it's be come apparent that studying's not going to get done anymore.... not that u needed to know that but anywya....

Cheers for the update.

Awww, I so wish I could get a cat too. Congreats on the new addition. :) And yes, like others I'm on the east coast and can't get to the LA screening.

But if (probably more like when) it gets over here, I am so going. Though thinking of an excuse of why I am calling in sick will be good. :)

Oh and love the name Martha. Made me think of something else I saw on TV the other night. Darn Animal Planet.

And thanks for posting again!

Sadly I won't be at the LA Screening (if only I wasn't thousands of miles away!)

Congrats on the move! We moved house a few months ago, and after 12 years in our previous house, moving was an arduous, horrendous ordeal that I hope to never repeat again (though my parents will eventually kick me out if I decide to stay!)

And keep the Loft in Translation name! It's clever and catchy!

Hi, please keep the name of the blog, it is so cool!. And it's very lovely to hear that you have adopted a second cat. I have ikea furniture too, but not in the colour of my cat. Uhh, I would love to be in the ADB screening, but crossing the Atlantic Ocean is a little far-fetched for my empty pocket. Anyway, I hove you and everyone that can go have lots of fun while there.

Good luck with the unpacking.

And you do well in keeping the blog's name. It's already recorded in our minds, we are now like zombies: "need to visit...webpage...need...to...visit...kate's blog...need to type...loft-..in-translation..blogspot...com...need to...press enter." It would be a bit difficult to adapt to a new name.

It's always interesting when a new member of the family arrives. Yesterday, we had to look after a puppy for a few hours, it's my nephew's birthday present. Anyway, our cat was decidedly unimpressed with the situation. After a few delicate sniffs towards the energetic canine, Cleo went absolutely postal on him. We decided that she needed an afternoon in the garden. Funniest damn thing I ever saw!

Oh, I'm glad that Martha and Rufus are getting on with each other! You know, that might get him a bit of exercise! It's great that they get on, really. I've seen so many unfortunate incidents where the older cat has rejected the younger one!

And we expect pictures soon, right?!

Hiya

First: wanna see a pic of Marhta!
Second: still wanna see a pic of the RuMaroller!
Third: um....would want to come to LA but it's too far away and costs too much money. Just convince David and Jane that it's totally necessary to do a screening in Frankfurt, Germany with all the stars (so YOU! Mars, Paul, Chris, Rachel and...I think there was one more....uhm...some guy starting with "D"?....) But you definitely have to post pics of the screening and of the con!

How did you come up with Martha's name? Any resemblance you saw to someone? My sis named her moouse Mary coz she reminded her of Dr. Watson's wife! How strange is that?!
And I'm glad Rufus and Martha get along with each other so well...we didn't have that much luck with our cat when we adopted this little fur ball. It was still okay but nce the new cat got pregnant it was all lost. The day the little kittens left the cellar and conquered the rest of the house our old cat moved out and settled in with some neighbours. But at least we knew where she was and that the people she adopted as a new family were really nice to her.

Enough of cats: Congrats to the move...you made it. I hope you and Rufus like the new location (or darn I wanted to stop writing about cats!)...
And you totally have to keep us informed about "mystery G"...
I think that was is....for now... ; )

Again with the forgetting of my password...

Sorry, no way for me to get to LA, but I hope you have a great time!

My mom's cats (one is actually mine, he just refused to live with me after my son was born...?) sleep together in their litter box. Makes you want to think twice about loving on them.

Loft in translation is still a good title...however their needs to be one of those translation engines for "KateSpeak". Not that I don't understand you ;) but it would be cool to see your words translated into mundane speak...did I just say that. That made less sense than, well anything. It's too early in the morning. *snore*

hugs...Auliya

Ok, i've finally done it, i've just read every single one of your blogs in college, thats procrastinating for you :p found out about your blog off the gateworld interview you did; well done with that by the way. Hated blogspot at the beginning but thought it deserved a second chance, im starting a blog i think with a way way way less clever name and probabaly less interesting to read. Have you got a myspace Kate?

Can't wait untill ADB, is it coming out on dvd? Is it coming to good old rainy old England? The trailers looked good.

I think you convinced me to get another cat! I miss my old cat misty, she was ace; and also very fat! But be carefull with laser pointers, rufus, and stairs :P We won't talk about the incident with my neighbours cat :)

Anyway i'd best get back to real work :( Hurry up and post more pics! X

Congrats on the move and the new baby.

I have to point out, however, that you cannot have crazy cat lady status until you have at least 4. I've 6, so I guess I get the insane cat lady title.

I also have no idea how I came to have 6. I really don't. So be careful, they tend to multiply without you're noticing.

Oh, and we're going to want pictures.

I would keep the name, good ideas can be scarce. I wish I could go to the screening, I'm not even sure they'll have the movie out here in Massachusetts? Too bad it's not taking place around the same time as my California trip, I'd actually drive all the way down from San Francisco to see it :)

By the way, I applaud you on adopting another cat. It's been saved from a short lonely life, and now has a loving "mom" and sibling. All my dogs were pound animals. I just wish my puppy was up here with me in college. I'd rather have four footed roommates than some of the special people I've lived with. *hides in corner*

I want a kitten! Of course, my kitty probably would be rather put out because she gets all the attention nowadays. I tried valiantly to get A Dog's Breakfast to do a screening in St. Cloud, Minnesota (well, I registered, but didn't have anyone else do it *cough cough* VALIANTLY!) but since nobody in St. Cloud really knows much about A Dog's Breakfast the amount of requests tends to be a little low. So, needless to say, LA is a little far. My sister and I are hoping it'll come out on DVD instead...will it? If it's not we can always hope someone uploads it to the Internet and we can giggle like schoolgirls in front of the computer screen.

Yay for kittens!

Your new role in davids film looks amazing and cant wait to see it.

I wish i had my cat with me at Uni, but i had to leave it home.. i dont think my cats ike me anyways, most die or run away... i must have an Anti-cat pheramone... poor me, i have a half persian grey cat called George... (what a name i know, we had another called henry)

anyways hope youre settling into your new place, and drop me a line whenever you can, i link to my (crappy) bog :D

good bye for now :D

I wish I could make it to L.A. for the screening. I'll be thinking of you as I'm NaNoWriMoing. Hope to get a chance to see the film soon. If you ever make it to this part of Oregon, I'll buy you a coffee. Wait, I didn't mean coffee. I meant some other, tummy-friendly beverage. Yeah.

If you look at your blog title from a different perspective, it's actually quite a philosophical name. Since loft as a verb meants "to send high up" and a translation as a noun is a decipherment, this blog is actually a sending high up of your decipherment (of life and the universe, or whatever).

I wish I could go to the screening. If the movie is even halfway as funny as Nothing, I'll at least be buying the DVD. I re-watched the episode of SGA -McKay and Mrs.Miller - it's still funny. I loved how easy you made it look - like you've been on the show for years. Your character fit right in, and I hope you get to come back in a recurring role. Good luck with the cat by the way - unfortunately, I'm not a cat person or any kind of animal person - I can't even keep a plant alive. Several geraniums have met their demise in my care. The worst was when I got goldfish as a prize at work and - a new record - I killed them within 24 hours. A cat might last longer, but I wouldn't want to chance it.
