I have a tea strainer instead of a brain /

So...sometimes I forget things. I forget where I put my keys (daily, especially if I'm in a hurry), what my PIN number is, who I made plans with, why I made those plans, what time my audition is at (possibly because they only happen once every leap year), where I keep the cleaning products (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it), whether or not I put my iPod in my purse, where my purse is, what my name is, whose cats these are, etc. etc.

And in this instance, I forgot that I had a blog. Seriously. I'm not even going to make one of my "Hey! Look at me! I'm back in Blogland! I'm gonna update every three hours for the rest of my life!" promises, because I wouldn't stick to it anyway.

Instead, I'm going to give you a brief update of my thrilling life, and say that my excuse for not updating is that I had a baby, got married, finished a series, wrote a whole bunch of new projects and renovated my house. OH. NO. WAIT. That was the OTHER Hewlett.

I have no excuse (except for the whole memory thing. See? I even forgot that I already had an excuse) but I do have updates. Okay...here goes...

The Swearing Jar (my newest play) happened in July and got extended for a week, which was very exciting. The cast, director, stage manager and everyone involved were incredible and I have become besties (to use a term they use a lot in Ugly Betty) with Janet Porter, the lead actress, whose talent blows my mind a little bit. She will be famous one day -- you heard it here first! In August, I did a lot of leisurely traveling (cottages and things) and saw one of the best plays I have ever seen: If We Were Birds by Erin Shields. Inspiring and moving and funny as well. I myself have not been writing, because procrastination has once again become my main focus. It takes a lot of time to really, truly, thoroughly commit to being a Grand Procrastinator of the Highest Order, but I am slowly climbing the ladder. Or doing other things while the ladder just sits there.

I have stayed in my current apartment (in Toronto) for almost a full year, which may well be a record for me. The rent is going up more than it is legally allowed to, which fills me with rage and thus cake, but as a Grand Procrastinator of the Highest Order In Training, I'm not going to do anything about it. Ooh! Ooh! I just moved up a rung.

In November, I am going to Las Vegas for a girls' weekend (my first time EVER in Vegas) and at the end of the month, I am heading to Germany for a small convention in Bad Salzdenfurth. I am pleased to say that I will be selling my new EP at the convention! It will have five original songs on it, written and sung by me, and arranged and performed (instrumentally) by Chris Stanton, the most ridiculously multi-talented man alive. Seriously. I'm not even using hyperbole. I may try to sell the Cds online in the new year if all goes well at the con!

In December, I will begin rehearsals for a brand new version of Humans Anonymous. It will be a one-act, 75-minute draft and the cast will include: Michelle Giroux, Philip Graeme, me, Gregory Prest and Mayko Nguyen. I'm so freakin' excited! The play itself will happen at the Next Stage Festival here in Toronto from January 7-17 at the Factory Theatre Mainspace. Andrew Hachey will be directing. Right after that Festival, I will begin shooting She Said Lenny, a short film that I wrote (loosely based on Humans Anonymous), which will also be starring Michelle Giroux and myself, directed by Michael Schultz and produced by Paul Lenart. We won funding from BravoFact, so it's actually going to happen! Wheeeeee!

Well...that's it for me. Hope all is well with you if you are reading this. Wait. That came out wrong. I hope that all is well with you if you aren't reading this, too. It's just that you wouldn't know that I hoped that you...oh forget it. Happy Wednesday/Thursday!

k.
p.s. The photos are just random shots from the last few months: me in a flower shop in Montreal, my sister's tree-climbing twins, a cat in a sink, a cat in a box, another cat in the same box.

I am totally psyched about a mini-movie version of Humans Anonymous. Not to start spewing liberal arts college rhetoric all over your blog (that stuff is a bitch to clean up, believe me), but it's good to see a queer-positive but *realistic* portrayal of the intense and crazy complexities of coming to terms with queerness, especially later in life.

Okay, now I have to purge or else I'll be talking like a hoity-toity grad student all day. KITTIES! LOOK AT ALL THE KITTIES! AW, KITTIES! ENDORSING APPLE PRODUCTS!

There. Much better XD

(Also, it's good to hear that you're doing well. I was just thinking the other day about how you hadn't blogged in a while, but that's probably creepy to say considering I don't actually know you.)

It's lovely to hear what you've been up to and what's going to be happening. Sounds like a great fun trip to Las Vegas! I hope you have a fab time.
I finally saw A Dog's Breakfast last week (!) and I thought it was wonderful! I laughed a lot and watched a fair bit of it through my hands. Well done!!
That picture of you in the flower shop is lovely, isn't it? The twins are very cute :)
Best wishes!

Oh my. You must release the cd online. As a huge fan of little old multi-talented you, as well as of Chris "the most ridiculously multi-talented man alive" Stanton my cd collection will not be complete without it.
Seriously must agree with you on the caliber of your friends' talent with only the caveat that you fit in with them for a reason.
I'm glad to hear Humans Anonymous will be getting a Next Stage run, will have to start saving now for a multishow pass as I will inevitably want to see something else as well. Are Brendan Gall or Chris Stanton doing anything there this year? Their stuff last year blew me away (but you knew that since I'm the girl who held up your long autograph line at SFX going on and on about their work. I did mention I like your stuff too right? cause I do.)
Really looking forward to seeing the show in January (omg, better get that promotion at work, between Next Stage and East of Berlin, I'm gonna end up soooo broke this winter. So worth it though)

Wow! It sounds like all sorts of wonderful things are beginning to merge for you.

Please, please, PLEASE sell your CD online! (Well, maybe have someone who isn't The Great Procrastinator manage it.)

And you must let us know as soon as your film is ready for marketing. We have powers, y'know....

You should bring yourself, your CD and Humans Anonymous over to the good ole UK; either Edinburgh or one of the cool little rep theatres in London.

You know you want to...

Hugs, Kate!

How cute are those twins? Seriously, they're adorable!

You have some very good things coming up. fantastic! Best of luck to them all. Definately, try to sale your CD online. Please?

Las Vegas...do you have room for one more? It would be an excuse to see some friends of mine who live there. If your trip was timed right, it might even be on days off work.

Now, on a serious note, I think you'll enjoy Vegas. I was surprised how much I loved it when I was there three years ago. I've been wanting to go back, but one thing after another has always managed to get in my way. A tip about Vegas most people don't know when they go there - on the 'strip' it is against the law for a vehicle to stop along the curb to pick someone up or drop someone off. Even cabs. If you want a cab along the strip, go to any casino/hotel and you can pick one up there.

You have to dance on the bar Coyote Ugly at New York New York casino in Vegas! And ride the rollercoaster there too (just not the morning after the night at the Coyote Ugly bar...trust me).
Glad you remembered to blog again =D

LOL @ the cat in the sink. Too funny. And the twins are adorable. :D

Cool on the CD!! Having heard you sing (at the Baltimore con), I would most definitely purchase this when/if it's released online. :)

Very cool on the HA front...and a movie too! Congrats on all the good stuff goin' on.

As to that ladder...well, there's an identical one down here...

Very nice images. The cat in the sink and in the bottom image of "in the box" looks exactly like my mom's cat, Snuggles. you've possibly said before the name of your cat's...but my curious nature wonders what you named your cat that looks exactly the same?

i had to laugh out loud that you "forgot" you had a blog. i forgot i had a myspace! not that i cared though about my myspace...my blog on the other hand i might actually be lost without it ;-)

you sound busy, and future busy! don't forget to feed the cats!

*peace*

So, first of all I'm sorry you don't get more auditions then you do. To be honest I am a huge fan of Atlantis and you are just as a good of an actor as your brother is. I think you should get more gigs. My wife and I watched a dog's breakfast last week and thought is was hilarious. Anyways you don't really know me, but I hope you do get more acting jobs because I think you are good at it.

PS Wierd how some many cats love sinks, ours does too.

Aw, Kate's blogging again! \o/

Glad to see you back! And great news about HA; I saw it in New York last winter and loved it - was quoting bits and pieces of it all week. (I should really get my passport renewed; Toronto is only 8 hours from Chicago.)

Very pleased to hear about the CD. When it goes on sale (which it WILL), let us know!

Oh look, she's back! Hi, Kate! I'm glad to see you've got some projects going. Nice photos!

When are you coming back to NYC? I'd love to see The Swearing Jar.

Of course I'll buy a cd. I've heard you sing at Shore Leave and in your play Humans Anonymous and you have a lovely voice.

Did you know both you and David are on a recent list of celebrity Twitters? Although both of you have been lax in the twitter department lately.

Have fun in Vegas and Germany.

Wow Kate you've been a busy Hewlett. Cool a CD, Mini Film, etc. There is no law that says you must update your Blog. Look at your older Brother, has he been abducted by aliens? We fans have not heard a peep out of that Hewlett. Lucky for us we got this Hewlett letting us know what's up with her.

I have a Blog too and MySpace and I tend to forget about them too. So you are not alone. And then there's Facebook.

I see the cuteness factor runs in the younger generation of Hewlett's too. Cute twins.

Have fun in Vegas, you deserve a girls only vacation. Because Winter is coming here to Toronto Kate. Are you ready? I am.

Hugs

Fran

Hooray, a post! Your mom was making both her blogger-children look bad.

You really, really should write a cop show/play! I could help you with your research. You could come and sit with me in the station office, although maybe not on a boring Sunday night. You learn lots of things here: http://weirdisgood-normalisboring.blogspot.com/2008/10/things-ive-learned-in-station-office.html

Thanks so much for your kind words. Things are tough in the acting world these days and it means a lot to have your support and the support of all the people who read my blog, especially the ones who write lovely comments that cheer me up at the end of a hard day!

Thanks,

I second the 'bringing your work to the UK'. I think I would enjoy attending.
I guess these things are all down to costs and time though.

Nice did at the 'other Hewlett's' excuses.
