All Done! /

So...The Last New Year is done. Well, for me it is. For the director, much of the work has just begun, but for me...vacation time! I really, really, really, really, really want to go somewhere hot and sunny and write my face off (not literally. Faces are important.) Unfortunately, I am broke (yet again) and I don't really tan anyway (scottish/irish/english heritage) and I probably wouldn't get any work done if I DID go, because I'd just drink seventeen pina coladas a day, sleep it off, then go back for more. So I'm thinking of doing a vacation-at-home type of deal. You know, booking a massage, exercising (remember exercise?), eating chocolate, taking myself out for dinner, seeing movies, getting a haircut, buying a lint roller, taking long baths with bottles of beer/wine (not mixed together), getting my eyebrows waxed (not off. Just thinned. I'm going to have to buy mine collars if I don't do something about them soon), write a musical, write a short film, hang out with my friends (some of them NEW friends -- I love clicking with new cool people. eg. Mayko from the movie), going for brunches, giving up Red Bull, buying some new boots, spending quality time with Rufus and Martha (my cats -- not my eyebrows) and catching up on some family/friend/business emails.
Sounds fun, huh? (And significantly less expensive than going to Puerto Plata. Depending on which boots I buy.)
I have a big musical theatre audition on Sunday which is FREAKING ME OUT because I haven't sung Andrew Lloyd Webber-esque songs in a LOOOONNNNNG TIIIIIIMMMMME. My only goal is to get through it without crying, coughing up a hairball or shattering any windows.
After that, a big Stratford audition to prep for.
Then...the non-vacationy vacation begins...
K.

I can't wait to see it.

It was just pointed out to me that you are on the schedule for Shore Leave (in Maryland) July 11-13. I thought I'd point out that a mere 2-2.5 hours away, Philadelphia will be having its International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival the 10th through 21st.

Enjoy the well-deserved rest.

Good luck with the writing and auditioning! I'm waiting on training for a new job and I'm therefore TRYING to write my face off. Hmm, face off - that'd be a good idea in my case! lol.

well done you on the completion of the film....and good luck on the upcoming audtions.

The stay-at-home-holiday sounds like a great idea....that is excactly what I'm partaking in at the moment...though with a little less waxing and lint roller buying and a little more sudoku and hamster babysitting.

The Stay-at-home-vacation sounds like a blast!!

I did that last year after a few hellacious months of work/book promotion and it was awesome. :)

Treat yourself - you totally deserve it.

(Just heard about Shore Leave - I'm hoping to get on the roster as a guest author, which would be cool).

Gah, I want a vacation. I guess I actually need a job first but... man, applying for jobs is hard work!

Also, break a leg on your audition. Musical theatre was my first love, and although it was also my first heartbreak, I still am far too fond of it.

I finally know why my vacations past haven't been all they could be! They lacked the lint roller purchasing. :)

Have fun relaxing :)

Mmm. I've done the stay-at-home vacation and it was lovely. The key, I think, it to not actually be at home the whole time, but to explore the city. You've got it planned out nicely - massage, pampering, kitty cuddling - ::approvestamp::

Congratulations on finishing the movie. Also, I wouldn't put it past you to name your eyebrows.

I've got a vacation off school, which would be almost as nice as your stay-at-home vacation if it weren't for the cold from Hell that I recently developed. While I go sniffle over here, I hope you enjoy your break, and I wish you luck with the audition!

Never tried the at home vacation let me know how it turns out. Think it's too late to buy winter boots?? We here in Kitchener got over 40 cm's of snow in less then a week :(

How was your last day? Was it emotional or were you glad to be done?

Good luck with the auditions!!! You are going to do just fine!!!

I heard about Shore Leave. Would love to go, but it's during a week when I am working and getting time off my job in July is next to impossible unless someone needs another time off and wants to switch with me. Can happen, but not likely. However, have a great time there!

Good luck with the auditions! If you do decide to flee to warmer climates, I can offer you a futon (you may have to share with a cat) here in sunny Arizona (although right now we're getting the winter rains).

Grats on finishing the film. Your at home vacation idea sounds nice... I started one once. It was about a year ago and now its just bordering on absurd. Have fun with the pampering and boot buying. Footwear shopping can be very therapeutic.

As for your auditions, I am quite sure that you will be fantastic. Break a leg!

As for me, I need to get a job so that I can go meet you at Shore Leave.

Congrats on finishing your part of the film. You didn't destroy anymore expensive equipment right? ;)

A stay-at-home vacation sounds great, I want one of those... except without the beer, I'll replace it with Vodka.

Good luck with your audition and with the writing... when you write your amazingly wonderful movie/play, just remind David how he owes you for ADB (which I've finally seen and loved, btw) and how he should pay for your movie/play to be produced ;)

Congratulations on finishing your work on The Last New Year! I can't wait to see it, and I'm sure you and the other actors have done an extraordinary job. Sometimes a "vacation" at home can be fun! You can use that time to pick up a book you've always wanted to read, see a movie you've been meaning to, try some new cooking recipes...at least, that's what I'd be doing! I myself can't quite afford the massage yet and I simply cannot get myself to the gym! I happen to find kayaking (which I've done on the Hudson River north of NYC) to be very peaceful! Going outdoors I think would be a lot of fun. Good luck with your auditions. Have fun!

Have fun and good luck with your auditions.

I need another vacation already (even though I just finished one a month ago). I guess the not-away-vacation is best. It helps in appreciating what you have at home. Or avoid the last day of vacation blues, when you don't want to get back on the plane and go home. However contrary to this statement, I am dying cause I can't go out of town. My dad gets a free trip to Kiev and Frankfurt (Germany) with his best friend. Dang it.

Oh well, I don't tan either. I'm so fair skinned that I'm see through. Irish/Polish plus red hair equals the worst burns on the face of the planet. If you stay out in the sun enough it'll eventually turn a crispy light tan. You'll probably pick up freckles though. Just what I needed, more of 'em on my knees!

Hope you guys are at least getting some sun. It seems like all of Canada's weather is getting dumped down here. 1.5 feet of snow and -20 C are very abnormal for us. Hard to do a stay at home vacation here with that.... ;p

Saw in an interview that you are maybe doing a CD, and that you are busy getting musical, which is very exciting! Fully expect to see you with your guitar at P4 in London then ;)

Guess that means the vacation is over, huh? But you have new boots, right? That makes everything better!

(Just been reading John Barrowman's autobiography, so I now know what colour roses are appropriate (Dark colours before a show: bad. Red after a show: good. NEVER yellow) for WHEN you get the part (break a leg!) - amongst all the other high-jinks that man gets up too.

Let us know how it's going (and how your hair looks!)

Kate, oh Kate, has the Atlantis marathon taken up too much of your time :P

I was wondering if you were currently acting in any stage productions in Toronto. I'm planning a visit soon and since I'm going to be taking in a few productions while I'm there, I'd love to make room in a schedule for one starring Ms. Hewlett :)

I"m sure your vacation is long gone, but . . .you're in Toronto -- think about hopping a flight to Albany (yes, oh horrors) and then renting a car and going to Saratoga Springs for a few days.

Racing's not on, but there's the Crystal Spa -- my number one place to relax when I'm done with a script. Or, you can go to the Victorian baths at the Gideon Putnam hotel.

Saratoga's gorgeous, especially offseason when the nasty gits aren't waving money around, it's affordable offseason, the restaurants are great, it has several bookstores, the dance museum, I think the racino's open at the harness track even if they're not running, and there's plenty of relaxing and good writing time to be had.

Enjoy your time off. Hope the audition went well.

Off topic, as a fellow writer, I figured you could commiserate -- wrote 98 pages on someone else's computer while working out of town the past few days, working off my flash drive.

Usually, I back up like a fiend and print every day's work out, but I can't print here.

I hit SAVE to save/close and email myself a backup, just in case -- and the Blue Screen of Death flashed and EVERYTHING is gone -- including the pages I've backed up so diligently all along. The whole file -- eaten. Not in temp files, not with a squiggly somewhere.

I am devasted.

I hate Microsoft.

Usually, though, a temp file is saved somewhere. I can't find it on any drive.

Figures -- on a day where 30 pages flowed like water and I was thrilled with a totally unexpected direction . . .

Thought you could relate.
